Recap: Wilkes Central Eagles vs. East Surry Cardinals
The Wilkes Central Eagles pushed their score all the way to 58 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of East Surry by a score of 60-58. Wilkes Central has struggled against East Surry recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Defeat or not, Wilkes Central got some senior leadership from Tyson Owens who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds and Gus Keener who scored ten points along with five rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Tyler Surgeon was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Wilkes Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for East Surry, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilkes Central will square off against North Wilkes at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. East Surry will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Forbush at 8:00 p.m. on January 16th.
