Baseball Recap: Mohawk Area Triumphs

Ellwood City typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Mohawk Area proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Wolverine. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Wolverine on Monday, they had to take a 14-3 loss.

Bobby Fadden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Vinny Pezzuolo was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Mohawk Area's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Wrona, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Mohawk Area's record is now 11-4. As for Ellwood City, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3.

When Mohawk Area and Ellwood City next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Warriors will try to stop New Brighton's four-game winning streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ellwood City will square off against Neshannock and their three-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on May 6. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverine 2.2, the Lancers 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
