Basketball Recap: Locust Fork Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Locust Fork had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 39-31 victory over the Pennington Tigers. This was a revenge game for the Hornets: when they faced off against the Tigers two weeks ago, they had to take a 44-37 defeat.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Locust Fork to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lynnleigh Tawbush, who posted 15 points. The dominant performance gave Tawbush a new career-high in points. Haley Dutton was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Locust Fork is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 30.5% in those games and 31.3% outside of them. As for Pennington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Locust Fork will square off against Mortimer Jordan at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pennington has already played their next matchup (against West End), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
