Basketball Recap: Westlake Lions vs. East Coweta Indians

The Westlake Lions can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They put the hurt on East Coweta with a sharp 62-40 win. Given Westlake's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Indians are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kieara Lugo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lugo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kezoriyah Blackshear, who scored 14 points along with five steals.

Even though they lost, East Coweta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Westlake's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for East Coweta, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westlake will take on the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Campbell will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for East Coweta, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Cavaliers at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd.
