Softball Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Arlington Spy Ponders
The Lexington Minutemen will head out on the road to square off against the Arlington Spy Ponders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Lexington is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Winchester just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Red & Black by a score of 12-11.
Meanwhile, Arlington can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Wednesday. They blew past Arlington Catholic 12-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Arlington.
Natalia Fotopoulos was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit over five innings pitched. Fotopoulos has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in five consecutive pitching appearances. Fotopoulos was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Nora Vartanian was incredible, going 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs. Soline Fisher was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Lexington's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Arlington, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
