Baseball Recap: San Ysidro Comes Up Short

San Ysidro had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 7-13 to make it 11. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bonita Vista Barons. Considering the last time the Cougars couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Bonita Vista, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games.

For Bonita Vista's part, the result came thanks to JACKSON HERNANDEZ's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. HERNANDEZ has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on LEO CUBILLAS, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was KENSEN JOHNSON, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

San Ysidro didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 loss against Otay Ranch on the 28th. As for Bonita Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-4 defeat against Eastlake on the 28th.
