Volleyball Recap: Greensburg Pirates vs. Batesville Bulldogs

After flying high against Hauser last Wednesday, Greensburg came back down to earth. The Greensburg Pirates took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Batesville Bulldogs on Monday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August.

While Greensburg ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Greensburg's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kirkley Lowe, who had 18 digs, and Carmin Ripperger, who had ten digs and two aces. Lowe is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season.

Even though they lost, Greensburg was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Batesville only served eight.

Batesville can attribute much of their success to Ava Walsman, who had 16 digs.

Greensburg's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-6. As for Batesville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greensburg and East Central are set to duel on Thursday. As for Batesville, they will take on South Dearborn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Batesville will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
