Softball Recap: Jay County Starts off Right with Win over Marion

Softball Recap: Jay County Patriots vs. Marion Giants
Jay County had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Marion Giants a 20-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Patriots also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2022.
Mallory Winner and Carley Trinidad made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Winner struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Trinidad pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Winner went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Trinidad scored two runs while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Winner has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Jay County let Morgan Missicano and Hallie Schwieterman run wild. Missicano scored three runs and stole a base while going 5-for-5, while Schwieterman scored three runs while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Ruble, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jay County will face off against Winchester Community at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Marion, they will take on Oak Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
