Baseball Game Preview: Barrington Eagles vs. Portsmouth Patriots

Barrington hasn't had much luck against Portsmouth recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. Barrington is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

Barrington came out on top against Middletown on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run sixth inning. The Eagles blew past the Islanders 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Cranston East. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since April 24th.

The team relied heavily on Emmett Greenwood, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Portsmouth: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-11 otherwise. Charlie Cord also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Barrington's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Portsmouth, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.

Barrington might still be hurting after the 14-8 defeat they got from Portsmouth when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
