Northfield hasn't had much luck against Southwood recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Norsemen will face off against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Northfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Daleville 8-7. The victory was some much needed relief for the Norsemen as it spelled an end to their 13-game losing streak.
Emma Warnock made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Warnock was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Bella Myers was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Samantha Powell, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Northfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Southwood had just enough and edged out Wes-Del 3-2 on Monday.
Natalie Sutphin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 24 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Izzy Ashba, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Southwood is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Northfield, their record now sits at 3-17.
Northfield suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Southwood in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Norsemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
