Softball Recap: Orion's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Orion's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Mendota Trojans with a sharp 22-1 win. With that victory, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Kendyl Filler looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Kadence Hammer and Nona Schofield did most of the damage at the plate: Hammer got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Schofield got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Khloe Nelson was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.

Orion was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mendota only posted a batting average of .188.

With the win, Orion broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-14. As for Mendota, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orion will head out to face off against Sherrard at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mendota, they will venture away from home to square off against Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
