Basketball Game Preview: Jackson Day Mariners vs. Garinger Wildcats

The Jackson Day Mariners will head out to challenge the Garinger Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Jackson Day came up short against Sugar Creek Charter and fell 61-54. The defeat continues a trend for the Mariners in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Garinger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were beaten by Butler 63-33. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 118th).

Jackson Day will need focus on slowing down Khente Carthran, one of several Garinger players who made an impact when they last played. He posted eight points and nine boards. Aaron Lawler was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

Jackson Day's record now sits at 2-14. As for Garinger, their record now sits at 1-14.

Things could have been worse for Jackson Day, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 71-55 loss to Garinger in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Jackson Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
