Baseball Recap: Alcoa's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Alcoa came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Austin-East Roadrunners 18-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-0 last Monday.

Mason Martin made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Simpson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cory Hatcher, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Alcoa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Alcoa's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Austin-East, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alcoa will welcome Loudon at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday. As for Austin-East, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Cosby at 5:30 p.m.
