Softball Game Preview: Pisgah Dragons vs. Clarkdale Bulldogs

The Pisgah Dragons will take on the Clarkdale Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pisgah is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over West Lincoln. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Maddi Byrd, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alex Holeman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Clarkdale had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Thursday. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Bulldogs this season.

Kaela Edmonds made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Abby Mowery was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Clarkdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .789. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Pisgah's victory bumped their record up to 20-8. As for Clarkdale, their win bumped their record up to 19-9.

Everything went Pisgah's way against Clarkdale in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Pisgah made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
