Softball Recap: Horizon Extends Winning Streak to Three

Horizon waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Evans Trojans a 16-0 shutout. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Morgyn Welch and Addison Lamb were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Welch struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Lamb pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Welch went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Lamb scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. What's more, Lamb posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Grafton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Madison Choquette also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Horizon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Horizon pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Evans, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Horizon will challenge Davenport at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Horizon will need to watch out since Davenport has now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Evans, they will face off against Dr. Phillips at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
