Basketball Preview: Warhill Lions vs. Phoebus Phantoms
The Warhill Lions will square off against the Phoebus Phantoms at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Warhill will be strutting in after a victory while Phoebus will be coming in after a loss.
It was a proper cat-fight when Warhill duked it out with Tabb on Tuesday. Warhill really took it to Tabb for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-18 win. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 27 points or more this season.
Warhill relied on the efforts of D'Shela Walker, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 25 points along with six steals and five assists, and Bria McAdoo, who went 10-for-13 en route to 21 points and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Walker has scored at least a third of Warhill's points. Another player making a difference was Taleah James, who posted seven points and five boards.
Meanwhile, Phoebus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 68-28 loss at the hands of Warwick. While losing is never fun, the Phantoms can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while the Raiders are ranked 86th).
Phoebus' loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Warhill, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
