Basketball Game Preview: Barstow Aztecs vs. Burroughs Burros

Barstow hasn't had much luck against Burroughs recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Barstow Aztecs will be home for the holidays to greet the Burroughs Burros at 5:30 p.m. Barstow is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

Barstow will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Serrano, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Barstow escaped with a win on Wednesday against Serrano by the margin of a single free throw, 60-59.

Barstow's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jailen Beverly, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Beverly has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Childs, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Burroughs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 59-44 to Adelanto. While losing is never fun, the Burros can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 868th, while the Saints are ranked 180th).

Barstow is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Burroughs, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Barstow came up short against Burroughs in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 66-55. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Burroughs' Cory Kent, who posted 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
