Glasgow hasn't had much luck against South Warren recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Scotties will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m.
Last Thursday, Glasgow came up short against Somerset and fell 8-3. The Scotties have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Glasgow got a good showing from Rashad Etheridge, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Glasgow saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Templin, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, South Warren had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Crusaders 9-2. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by exactly seven runs.
Griffin Rardin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Austin Allen tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty Croghan, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camden Page, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI.
South Warren kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.
South Warren's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Glasgow, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Glasgow has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Warren struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Glasgow couldn't quite get it done against South Warren in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 5-0. Will the Scotties have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
