Softball Game Preview: St. Margaret's Scotties vs. Trinity Episcopal Titans

St. Margaret is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Trinity Episcopal Titans at 4:30 p.m.

St. Margaret's is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after starting their season on the road. They lost 21-2 to Collegiate last Tuesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 14 in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Trinity Episcopal). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Collegiate a 19-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Titans considering their one-run performance the match before.

Brooke Shelton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Beatty, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ainsley McNeer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Trinity Episcopal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .618. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
