Softball Recap: Daleville Comes Up Short

Daleville extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 13-6 in the process. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Castle Trojans. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Daleville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Simmons, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another was Valyn Pattengale, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

As for New Castle, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On New Castle's side, Sydney Dobbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, Kattie Mathews was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Perdew, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Daleville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 9-6 loss against Tri on the 19th. As for New Castle, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 13-3 defeat against Yorktown on the 17th.
