Softball Game Preview: St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders vs. Niceville Eagles

The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will take on the Niceville Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Thomas Aquinas comes in on five and Niceville on 11.

St. Thomas Aquinas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past South Fork 10-1. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by eight runs or more this season.

Lavinia Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, St. Thomas Aquinas got a massive performance out of Sara Wrzosek, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave Wrzosek a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Givens, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

St. Thomas Aquinas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Niceville owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Matanzas 1-0.

The result came thanks to Chloe Bailey's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

St. Thomas Aquinas' record now sits at 16-12. As for Niceville, their record is now 21-6.
