Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandy). They blew past the Gresham Gophers 61-21 at home on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Pioneers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sandy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caden Mcmahon, who rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries. Those 116 rushing yards gave Mcmahon a new career-high. Mataio Olomua was another key back, rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.

He was just one part of a punishing run game: Sandy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 289 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Gresham still got an impressive performance from Liam Arnold, who rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also threw for 130 yards on nine of 16 attempts. Arnold's longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

The win got Sandy back to even at 3-3. As for Gresham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandy will host Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central Catholic will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Sandy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gresham, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Nelson at 7:00 p.m. Nelson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Gresham likes a good challenge.
