Basketball Game Preview: Magoffin County Hornets vs. Johnson Central Golden Eagles

The Magoffin County Hornets will head out to square off against the Johnson Central Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Magoffin County has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the third.

Last Saturday, Magoffin County came up short against Betsy Layne and fell 75-64. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Bobcats are ranked 100th).

Meanwhile, Johnson Central also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Pineville by a score of 95-86. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Magoffin County will need to focus on slowing down Austin Slone, one of several Johnson Central players who made an impact when they last played. He to rack up 30 points and six assists. Slone is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 53% in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Shepherd, who en route to 25 points.

Johnson Central's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Magoffin County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-20.

Magoffin County was taken down by Johnson Central 68-31 in their previous meeting on February 8th. Can Magoffin County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
