Baseball Recap: Leadership Takes a Loss

Leadership extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Burton Pumas, falling 21-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pumas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 back in March.

As for Burton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

For Burton's part, Christian Pabalate and Juan Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Pabalate pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sanchez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Pabalate has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Pabalate went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Sanchez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Sanchez has become a key player for Burton: the team is 10-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Burton let Ryan Perez Say and Isaac Bautista run wild. Perez Say got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Bautista went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Perez Say a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roger Solano-Casco, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

While Leadership had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
