Football Game Preview: Westerly Bulldogs vs. West Warwick Wizards + How To Watch

Westerly and West Warwick are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Wizards at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Westerly is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Coventry 61-0. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Oakers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

A big part of Westerly's win came down to the chemistry between Landon Husereau and his top target Daniel Cummings. Husereau threw for 192 yards and three TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes while Cummings gained 112 total yards and two touchdowns. Husereau's passing game has become a key predictor of Westerly's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

Westerly didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Coventry to a completion percentage of just 26.7%. The Bulldogs have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.63 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.63 in their last three games.

Westerly didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cummings and Alyn Husereau.

Meanwhile, West Warwick faced Woonsocket in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wizards were the clear victors by a 35-13 margin over the Villa Novans.

One reason for the win was West Warwick's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Luke Gallo, Delvin Polanco, and Brody Meschino, who each picked up one sack apiece.

West Warwick's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Westerly, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.

Westerly came up short against West Warwick in their previous matchup last Friday, falling 27-20. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
