Softball Game Preview: Hicks Pirates vs. Fairview Panthers

The Hicks Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Fairview Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hicks is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.

On Tuesday, Hicks got the win against Elizabeth by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won eight matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Maliah Gordy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Saige Hagan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Hicks hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Fairview fell victim to Anacoco and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 9-0 to the Indians. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost seven in a row.

Hicks' win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Fairview, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Everything went Hicks' way against Fairview when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Hicks made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hicks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
