Basketball Recap: Brevig Mission Takes a Loss

Brevig Mission was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 60-48 to the Shishmaref Northern Lights. The Huskies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Northern Lights earlier this season, when they won 48-32.

Shishmaref found their leader in freshman Elizabeth Kokeok, who posted 18 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Kokeok is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Bertha Nayokpuk was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Brevig Mission's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Shishmaref, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10.

Brevig Mission does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shishmaref, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Shaktoolik at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shaktoolik will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Shishmaref surely won't give up without a fight.
