Basketball Game Preview: Greenfield Knights vs. Blue Ridge Barons

The Greenfield Knights will face off against the Blue Ridge Barons at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Greenfield is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Southern Wake Academy: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Knights blew the Lions out of the water with an 88-47 final score. The Knights pushed the score to 76-39 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions had no chance of recovering from.

Kobe Edwards had an outrageously good game as he shot 70% from beyond the arc on his way to 39 points and five rebounds. Those 39 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Moore, who posted nine points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Blue Ridge had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on Virginia Episcopal School with a sharp 74-52 win.

The victory was the third in a row for Greenfield, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 75.7 points this season. As for Blue Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Greenfield lost to Blue Ridge on the road by a decisive 84-66 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Thankfully for the Knights, Shanon Simango (who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
