Baseball Game Preview: Wellington Eagles vs. Bennett Tigers

The Wellington Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Bennett Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wellington's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matches, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Severance hit Wellington with a four-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 9-1 to the Silver Knights.

Wellington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cade Keller, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Bennett came out on top against Yuma on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Outlaws 9-8.

Brody Hawes was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Bennett's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Diego Madera also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Bennett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Bennett has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Wellington, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
