Basketball Recap: Jaden Shoultz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dematha over Santa Margarita

If DeMatha was feeling good fresh off their 90-65 takedown of Fayetteville Academy on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Stags lost to the Santa Margarita Eagles on the road by a 71-54 margin on Saturday. The loss put an end to the Stags' undefeated start to the season.

DeMatha's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Shoultz, who posted 11 points and five assists. Shoultz has also also been stellar as far as three-point shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 40% every time he's hit the court this season. Jared Jeffers was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, DeMatha fell to 2-1. As for Santa Margarita, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. DeMatha will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against West Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Margarita, they will face off against Village Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
