Preview: Valentine vs. Gordon-Rushville Mustangs
Valentine is 2-8 against Gordon-Rushville since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Valentine will look to defend their home court against the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Valentine has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
A well-balanced attack led Valentine over North Central in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Valentine blew North Central out of the water with a 70-40 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-21.
Valentine relied on the efforts of Dominic Beebout, who scored 17 points along with eight assists, and Andon Olson, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Beebout posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Lex Larsen, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, sadly, Gordon-Rushville is still looking for their first win of the season after 17 games. They took a serious blow against Bridgeport on Friday, falling 78-14. While losing is never fun, Gordon-Rushville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Bridgeport is ranked 50th).
The victory got Valentine back to even at 10-10. As for Gordon-Rushville, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-17.
Things could have been worse for Valentine, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-30 loss to Gordon-Rushville when the teams last played back in February of 2023.
