Monticello had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 8-1 to make it four. They came out on top against the Western Albemarle Warriors by a score of 7-4. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Madison Steppe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Stella Snoddy was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Willow Barr, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Western Albemarle, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2. The contest marked their lowest-scoring match so far this season.
On Western Albemarle's side, Aniyah Sims made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. Jillie Clark also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Monticello will face off against rival Orange County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 1.3, the Fighting Hornets 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Western Albemarle is set to challenge their familiar foe Louisa County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
