Basketball Recap: Portland Comes Up Short

Portland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 60-21 loss at the hands of the Haddam-Killingworth Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Highlanders of the 64-26 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Portland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kelsey Desmarais posted nine points.

Portland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Haddam-Killingworth, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Portland will take on Valley Regional at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Portland is facing Valley Regional at the right time seeing as Valley Regional is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Haddam-Killingworth, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Haddam-Killingworth Cougars duke it out with the Old Lyme Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
