It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cathedral ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Irish have posted since May 18, 2024.

Connor Christiansen looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Sinsabaugh, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Cathedral has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Franklin Community, they moved to 11-5 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Cathedral will be playing in front of their home fans against Mooresville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Franklin Community, they are taking a road trip to square off against Martinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzly Cubs are facing the Artesians at the right time seeing as the Artesians are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
