Softball Recap: Watertown Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

While Watertown's victory against Monona Grove wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Goslings skirted past the Silver Eagles 4-2. The Goslings' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Cali Craig made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Breanna Meracle, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Watertown pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Monona Grove, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watertown will challenge Waunakee at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.33 runs per game on average), something the Goslings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monona Grove, they will take on Fort Atkinson at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Silver Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blackhawks have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
