Softball Game Preview: Roxboro Community Bulldogs vs. Northside - Pinetown Panthers

Roxboro Community hasn't had much luck against Northside - Pinetown recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bulldogs will square off against the Panthers. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Roxboro Community is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Wilson Prep a 21-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.

Kaylyn Pope looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Roxboro Community let Leah Griffin and Presley Leonard run wild. Griffin went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Leonard got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave Leonard a new career-high. Lexi Powell was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Roxboro Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .833. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in 17 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Northside - Pinetown waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Patriots 13-2.

Roxboro Community pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Northside - Pinetown, their record is now 13-10.

Roxboro Community suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Northside - Pinetown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
