The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will venture away from home to face off against the Chaminade Julienne Catholic Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop McNicholas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Archbishop McNicholas narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Turpin 11-10.
Lucy Laudeman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Alli White also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Archbishop McNicholas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chaminade Julienne Catholic). They never let Northridge get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Em Schwartz and Aubrey Kolton were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Schwartz tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kolton tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Schwartz went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Kolton got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Schwartz a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Gorham, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emily Lehmann, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
The victory got Archbishop McNicholas back to even at 4-4. As for Chaminade Julienne Catholic, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Archbishop McNicholas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Chaminade Julienne Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Archbishop McNicholas suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Chaminade Julienne Catholic when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
