Softball Recap: Newman Fighting Cardinals vs. Edgar Wildcats
Newman had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it seven. They came up short against the Edgar Wildcats, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-8 on Tuesday.
As for Edgar, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-5. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
For Edgar's part, they got a massive performance out of Grasci Yonker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Yonker a new career-high. Jorja Knetter was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Newman has already played their next game (against Chequamegon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Edgar, they will venture away from home to face off against Stratford at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
