Softball Recap: Stella Weaver Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Lithonia

Northview's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lithonia Bulldogs a 17-0 shutout. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Stephanie Bombard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Stella Weaver was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Burdick, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Northview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northview's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-8. As for Lithonia, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northview will take on Southwest DeKalb at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Titans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lithonia, they will challenge Marist at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
