Softball Game Preview: Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings vs. Plainfield Central Wildcats

The Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings will square off against the Plainfield Central Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Homewood-Flossmoor will be strutting in after a win while Plainfield Central will be coming in after a loss.

Homewood-Flossmoor's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Thornton Fractional South as Homewood-Flossmoor made off with a 16-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Izzy Thurman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Thurman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Homewood-Flossmoor let Elodie Sullivan and Demi Chaney run wild. Sullivan went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Chaney went 1-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Sullivan has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Skinner, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Monday. Plainfield Central fell 7-2 to Neuqua Valley.

Kaylynn Howe was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Evalyn Prochaska was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

Plainfield Central's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Homewood-Flossmoor hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Plainfield Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs.
