Softball Recap: St. Mary's Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

St. Mary had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Monday. They put the hurt on the Sacred Heart Academy Sharks with a sharp 16-1 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 two weeks ago.

Gabrielle Lowell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jada Mushat, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lauren Payne, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

St. Mary's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

St. Mary's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they will face off against Nichols at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
