Softball Recap: Butler Golden Tornado vs. Baldwin Highlanders
Butler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 10-5 to the Baldwin Highlanders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Butler of the 8-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
Kelsey Ogin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered ten runs (all of which were unearned) on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in eight consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaela Malis was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Chloe Schoentag, who scored a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Butler hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baldwin struck out ten times.
On Baldwin's side, they got a massive performance out of Reese Temme, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryley Shaw, who scored a run while going 5-for-5.
Butler's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Baldwin, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.
Butler will head out on the road to take on Baldwin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Baldwin, they will be playing at home against Non Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
