Basketball Recap: Shelton's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

It was a good run, but Shelton unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ansley/Litchfield Spartans. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Shelton lost, don't look at Jaxson Ohlman. Despite the final result, he posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Kenton, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Shelton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ansley/Litchfield only pulled down three offensive rebounds.

Luke Bailey was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 33 points and nine steals for Ansley/Litchfield. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Bailey has scored at least a third of Ansley/Litchfield's points. Owen Cunningham was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Shelton's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3. As for Ansley/Litchfield, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.

Shelton will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Giltner at 7:30 p.m. Shelton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.8 points per game this season. Ansley/Litchfield has already played their next match, a 48-39 victory against Wilcox-Hildreth on the 18th.
