Baseball Recap: Conemaugh Valley Comes Up Short

Conemaugh Valley lost against Cambria Heights back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Blue Jays fell 8-5 to the Highlanders. The Blue Jays have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kyron Fields was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Conemaugh Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise. Fields was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jeremy Dietz and Wes Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Dietz went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Smith went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Smith is becoming a predictor of Conemaugh Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Logan Heinlein, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Conemaugh Valley's record is now 8-7. As for Cambria Heights, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-6 record.

While Conemaugh Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
