Softball Game Preview: Lakeland Cavaliers vs. Deep Creek Hornets

Lakeland is 1-9 against Deep Creek since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will welcome the Hornets at 5:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lakeland's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Indian River as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Deep Creek never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Oscar Smith on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Tigers.

Larah Fray made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Fray was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Deep Creek got a big performance out of Hailey Bishop, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits Bishop has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Liddell, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Deep Creek is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeland, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
