Pershing County extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oasis Academy Bighorns. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Bighorns this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-2 loss on Saturday.
Aaliyah Allen and Riley Harvey did some serious damage despite the final result: Allen got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Harvey went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lauren Poffenroth, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Oasis Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
On Oasis Academy's side, Kirsten Detomasi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Detomasi has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Oasis Academy let Taylynn Maynez and Emma Lewis run wild. Maynez got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Lewis went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Maynez has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorena Rios, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Pershing County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 12-0 defeat against Battle Mountain on the 15th. As for Oasis Academy, they have also already played their next contest, a 7-0 victory against North Tahoe on the 15th.
