The Newark Norsemen will venture away from home to face off against the Somonauk Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Newark has three straight victories, Somonauk has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Newark beat Plano 8-3.
Dottie Wood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate Bromeland, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Adelaide Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Newark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plano only posted a batting average of .214.
Meanwhile, Somonauk came up short against St. Francis on Wednesday, falling 11-1.
Somonauk saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Bahrey, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Newark's win bumped their record up to 13-14-2. As for Somonauk, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Newark hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Somonauk struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newark took their victory against Somonauk in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-3 score. Do the Norsemen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
