Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Tonopah

Tonopah entered their tilt with Eureka on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 13-8 win over the Vandals. The Muckers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vandals, too.

Alyssa Maurer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Tonopah got a massive performance out of Gabrielle Strozzi, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Strozzi has posted since back in April of 2024. Liberty Deck was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Tonopah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.

Tonopah's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.8 runs over those games. As for Eureka, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Vandals beat Tonopah by a score of 21-4 later that day.
