Football Recap: Boca Ciega Comes Up Short + How To Watch

There was early excitement for Boca Ciega after they claimed the first score on Friday, but it was Lakewood who ended up claiming the real prize. The Pirates took a blow against the Spartans, falling 50-14. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Spartans are ranked 46th).

When it comes to explaining why Boca Ciega lost, don't look at Jamari Sanders. Despite the final result, he rushed for 104 yards and a pair of scores. Sanders also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Pirates are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Lakewood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Wallace, who threw for 312 yards and two TDs. That's the most passing yards Wallace has posted since back in October of 2024. Lakewood's leading receiver Dmari Roberts was Wallace's top target yet again, picking up 166 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Boca Ciega's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Lakewood, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Boca Ciega wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 19-13 win against Bayshore on the 10th. As for Lakewood, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-12 defeat against Cardinal Mooney on the 10th.
