Volleyball Recap: Wayland Academy Comes Up Short

Wayland Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Oakfield Oaks. If the Big Red were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Oaks when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

While Wayland Academy was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Oakfield's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-7, 25-12, 25-16.

Reina Schroeckenthaler paced Wayland Academy's offense, picking up five kills. Schroeckenthaler got some help from Ella Kikkert and her 16 assists. Finally, Amily Cho kept Wayland Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Oakfield was led to victory by Lily Collien and Kylynn Gerlikovski. Collien had 12 digs and two aces, while Gerlikovski had six digs. Collien is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Wayland Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Oakfield, the win snapped their losing streak at three matches and leaves them with a 9-5 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Wayland Academy will take on Central Wisconsin Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oakfield, they will face off against Lomira at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
